CHARLES GILMAN SAFFORD, a son of Dudley Safford, was born in Exeter, N. H., November 14, 1804. He was prepared for college at Phillips Exeter Academy. After graduating, he completed the theological course of study at Andover, Mass., in 1830. In September, 1831, he was ordained pastor of a congregational church, in Gilmanton, N.
H.; which relation he sustained until June, 1836, when he left the ministry, in consequence of ill-health, and, the same year, commenced the study of medicine at Hanover, N. H.
He received a medical degree at Dartmouth Medical College, in 1840, and practised his profession, first, in Southboro, Mass.; and, afterwards, in Rutland, Mass, where he died of consumption, April 27, 1847.
He was married, October 14, 1831, to Miss Mary L. Brigham, of Boston, Mass. He had two children;--Charles B. B., and Edward P.
