WILLIAM OLCOTT, was born in Hanover, N. H., September 19, 1806. His father, Hon. Mills Olcott, a graduate of Dartmouth, in 1790, was, for many years, a Trustee and the Treasurer of Dartmouth College.
He was prepared for college at Moor's School in Hanover, N. H.; entered Yale College in 1823; remained there till near the close of the Sophomore year; and then joined the Sophomore class at Dartmouth. After graduating, he studied law with his brother-in-law, Hon. Joseph Bell, at Haverhill, N. H. He was admitted to the bar, in 1830, and, soon after, commenced practice at Hanover, where he remained until 1835. At this date, he relinquished his profession, and removed to Rochester, N.Y. From Rochester he removed to Buffalo, N. Y., and, afterwards, to Shreveport, La., where he died in 1851.
He married Miss Harriet Hinsdale, and left, at his decease, one son, and two daughters.
