ALFRED KITTREDGE, A son of Dr. Jonathan Kittredge, was born in Canterbury, N. H., October 22, 1805. He was prepared for college at Pembroke Academy, under the instruction of Hon. John Vose. After graduating, he taught the academy in Salisbury, N. H., six months; and then studied law with Hon. Jeremiah H. Woodman, at Rochester, N. H., and with Hon. J. H. Duncan, at Haverhill, Mass. He was admitted to the bar in 1831; practised in Ipswich, Mass., until 1832 ; when he returned to Haverhill, where he has since resided.
He has twice been elected a Representative, and twice a Senator, to the Massachusetts Legislature. He was, two years, a Director of the Haverhill and Andover Railroad, and has been President of the Haverhill Mutual Fire Insurance Company since its organization, in 1841.
He was married, October 15, 1832, to Miss Mary Emery Noyes, of Salisbury, N. H. He has one daughter;--Sarah.
