ALFRED GREENLEAF, A son of Abner Greenleaf, was born in West Newbury, Mass., May 10, 1804.
He was prepared for college principally at Phillips Exeter Academy; left college during the Sophomore year; taught school in Salem, Mass., from the spring of 1825, to that of 1837; and then removed to Brooklyn, N. Y., and commenced a school for young ladies, which he has continued to the present time. He received the degree of A. M. from Dartmouth, in 1838.
He was married, November 27, 1830, to Miss Lucy L. Field, of Salem, Mass. He has had seven children; of whom, Lucy Ann, Alfred, Charles, Mary Catharine, and Emma, are living.
