FRANCIS FOWLER, Was born in Windsor, Vt., Nov. 11, 1808. He was a son of Rev. Bancroft Fowler, a graduate of Vale, in 1796, formerly Professor in the Theological Seminary in Bangor, Me., now a resident of Stockbridge, Mass. He pursued his preparatory studies at the academy in Bangor, under the tuition of Mr. Baldwin, and Mr. Josiah Brewer; entered Dartmouth in 1823; left, in the spring of 1825; was employed as merchant's clerk in Bethel, Vt., and in Bangor, Me., until the autumn of 1826 ; when he commenced a school in the vicinity of Bangor. His health, which, for some time, had been feeble, allowed him to continue this business but a few weeks. During the subsequent winter and spring, he gradually failed, and died of consumption, in Boston, Mass., June 19, 1827, while on his way from Bangor to the family residence, in Pittsfield, Mass.
